Traffic but No Sales: The Nine Leaks a Landing Page Springs

The traffic is rarely the problem. The page is. Nine leaks, in the order we check them.

The symptom every owner describes the same way

“We get traffic. Nobody calls.” Analytics shows visitors; the phone does not ring. The instinct is to buy more traffic. That is the expensive mistake, because a page that loses 97 of 100 visitors loses 970 of 1,000 just as reliably. The traffic is not the problem. The page is.

Rule: before spending another dollar on traffic, find which of the nine leaks below your page has. Most have three. Fixing them costs an afternoon; buying past them costs every month forever.

Leak 1: the headline is about you

“Welcome to Smith Plumbing” tells the visitor nothing about their burst pipe. The headline states the outcome the visitor wants, in the words they searched.

Leak 2: the phone number is not tappable, or not visible

On a phone, the number should be a tap-to-call button at the top and again at the bottom. Text that is not a link is a leak.

Leak 3: the form asks for too much

Every field costs completions. Name, phone, and one question is enough for a first contact. Price the rest with the form friction calculator.

Leak 4: nothing says what happens next

Uncertainty stops people. “A real person calls you within one business day, no pressure” above the button removes more friction than any design change.

Leak 5: proof is on a different page

Reviews, credentials and photos belong next to the promise and the price, not on an About page nobody visits.

Leak 6: the page is slow on a phone

Google’s Core Web Vitals thresholds are 2.5 seconds for the largest content paint, 200 milliseconds for interaction, 0.1 for layout shift. Test with PageSpeed Insights; images are usually the culprit.

Leak 7: three calls to action compete

One primary action per page. Secondary options look secondary. Five equal buttons is zero buttons.

Leak 8: the traffic is wrong

If the page is fine and the rate is still low, split by source. Broad social clicks and untargeted ads convert poorly on any page. Search traffic from your actual service terms is the fix, which is what Eye To Ad Media’s Denver SEO work and our own paid search management are built to send.

Leak 9: you never measured calls

Service customers call. A page counted only on form fills can look broken while the phone rings. Put call tracking on the number before deciding anything.

Questions readers ask

Should I buy more traffic if my page does not convert?
No. Fix the page first; otherwise you pay to lose more visitors at the same rate.
How do I know if it is the page or the traffic?
Split conversion rate by source. If search traffic converts and social does not, it is the traffic. If nothing converts, it is the page.
What is the fastest fix?
A tappable phone number at the top, a three-field form, and a sentence saying what happens after submit. An afternoon of work.
Do I need a redesign?
Rarely. Most leaks are copy, form and placement problems that a redesign would reproduce in prettier fonts.
