Website conversion rate · calculator and benchmarks

Your website conversion rate is a number. Most owners have never seen it.

Visitors in. Calls out. Divide. That's the most important ratio in your marketing.

Website conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who do the thing you built the site for — call, book, buy, request a quote. It's the number that decides whether every ad dollar is worth spending. Most business sites sit somewhere between one and three percent. Enter yours below and see where you stand, what one more point is worth, and what usually moves it.

Direct answer: Website conversion rate is the percentage of website visitors who complete a desired action — a call, form submission, booking or purchase — calculated as conversions divided by visitors, times 100. Typical business websites convert between roughly 1% and 3%, with wide variation by industry and traffic source; a 1-point improvement on 5,000 monthly visitors is 50 additional customers a month. Search Converts measures and improves website conversion rate through conversion rate optimization, landing page optimization and A/B testing.

Definitions, plainly

Conversion rate, defined. Then what moves it.

Conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100. A "conversion" is whatever action pays you: a call, a form, a booking, a sale. Track each one separately, because a site can convert calls well and forms badly. Traffic source matters too — visitors from a search for your service convert far better than visitors from a social post about your dog.

What a good rate looks like

Widely reported benchmarks put most business sites between one and three percent, with the best landing pages far higher. Compare yourself to your own last month before anyone else's average.

What a point is worth

Take your visitors, add one percent, multiply by what a customer is worth. On 5,000 visits and a $1,000 customer, one point is $50,000 a month. Now you know what to spend to get it.

What moves it

The first screen, the offer, proof beside the ask, load speed, form length, and how fast someone answers. In that order, usually. The audit finds which one is yours.

How to improve it

Measure. Fix the biggest leak. Measure again.

Start by tracking every conversion type — calls, forms, chats, bookings — by source. Most businesses discover they never knew their real number. Then look at the page like a stranger: the free conversion audit is that look, ranked. Fix the biggest leak first; it's usually the first screen or the phone number's position.

Then test the change instead of assuming it worked. Conversion rate optimization is a discipline, not a redesign: one change, measured, kept or reverted. Our conversion optimization service runs that loop for you; A/B testing is the engine inside it.

Track everything

Calls, forms, chats, bookings — by source. You cannot improve what you do not count.

Find your number

Conversions ÷ visitors. Per page, per source. Write it down.

Fix the biggest leak

First screen, phone position, offer, proof, speed, form. The audit ranks them.

Test, keep, repeat

One change at a time, run to significance. The number climbs and stays.

If you don't know your conversion rate, how do you know what an ad is worth?

Questions

Straight answers.

For most business websites, somewhere between 1% and 3% of visitors take a meaningful action; strong landing pages with matched traffic do much better. The honest benchmark is your own site last month. Improve that.

Conversions divided by visitors, times 100. Count every conversion type — calls, forms, chats, bookings — separately and by traffic source. Google Analytics plus call tracking gives you both halves.

Usually one of six things: the first screen doesn't say what you do, the phone number is below the fold, too many competing actions, no proof beside the offer, a slow page, or a long form. Occasionally it's the traffic — the wrong people arriving. The audit tells you which.

Indirectly: a page people leave immediately sends weak engagement signals, and a page that answers the question keeps them. But treat them as two jobs. Being found is the search side — Eye To Ad Media. Being chosen is this one.

It depends on where you start. A site with a locked door can double; a well-built page might gain a few tenths of a point per test. Either way the math is the same: visitors × the lift × what a customer is worth. We show you that number before we start.

Put the phone number in the first screen on mobile and make sure someone answers it. It costs nothing and moves the number for most local businesses within a week.

Know your number. Then raise it.

Conversion tracking, the audit, and the testing loop that keeps the number climbing. If we can do all of that within your budget, are you ready to get started?
